Rules of the Trail: A Good Reminder for All of Us
San Mateo County Parks are slowly reopening May 4. As we responsibly enjoy nearby nature, please keep in mind the following:
- Please stay home if you are sick
- Maintain 6 feet of physical distance between you and others
- Stay local
- Turn around if the trail is crowded
- Do not congregate at trailheads
- Wash your hands
- Be kind
When the shelter-in-place order went into effect and inessential travel curtailed, many people headed outdoors to discover and enjoy parks and trails new to them. Parks saw an exponential increase in visitors. Due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19, parks were closed to ensure people’s health and safety.
Washing Away the Stay at Home Blues with a Walk in Nearby Nature
This past Tuesday, I was working from home, sitting at my table in the same place I’ve been for weeks. My head kept turning to look outside at the sunshine hitting the trees. I wasn’t feeling very productive or motivated. In fact, I was feeling drained, overwhelmed and anxious. It was Noon and I decided it was time to take my own advice and indulge in a nearby nature break. In fact, I would take it a step further and give myself an activity: I will go shoot a rainbow. Which meant I grabbed my iPhone and headed outside in search of all the colors of the rainbow in the natural world.

Mission Statement

Land Acknowledgement
The San Mateo County Parks Foundation’s office is located on the ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush and Muwekma Ohlone peoples, the original inhabitants and land stewards of the San Francisco Peninsula. As guests, we recognize that we benefit from living, working and recreating here on their traditional homeland. We wish to pay our respects by acknowledging the ancestors, elders and future generations of caretakers of the Ohlone people.
Fundraising Priorities and Current Goals
In partnership with the San Mateo County Department of Parks, the Foundation raises funds to support projects, programs and volunteers for benefit parks and visitors.
We are committed to conserving and improving the quality of our county parks for current and future generations to enjoy.
