The Marvelous Diversity of Arthropods and Their Defenses
06/25/2018 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
In a presentation designed for children from kindergarten through 8th grade, Stephanie Doyle, aka the Beetle Lady, will discuss the amazing diversity of arthropods and highlight some of their fascinating defenses. She will bring live arthropods to observe and then lead the kids outside to sample our local insects.
Insects are food for all kinds of organisms, so they spend a lot of time trying not to get eaten. Learn about the cool ways insects defend themselves. We’ll search for hidden bugs, play with warning coloration, meet live arthropod, and learn how bugs defend themselves.
After her presentation and display of live arthropods, kids will use insect nets to sample and observe some of the insects hiding in our park’s vegetation.
This program is made possible by the generous contribution from the San Mateo County Parks Foundation.
