Educational Hike: How Do We Balance Ecosystem Health with Community Safety in Our Parks?

12/14/2019

At Huddart Park – Miwok Shelter
Saturday, December 14, 2019 – 9-11am & 1–3pm

Join us for a hike on Saturday, December 14, in Huddart Park, where we will view sites of recent fire fuel reduction work coordinated by San Mateo County Parks and CAL FIRE. While such work helps safeguard neighboring communities against wildfire and provides long-term ecological benefits, it can also have an initially dramatic effect on the appearance of the landscape. On this hike, we’ll engage in a conversation about how we balance ecosystem health and community safety in our parks.

There will be two hikes, one at 9:00 AM and another at 1:00 PM. We’ll meet at the Miwok Picnic Shelter (see Google map) and hike up Archery Fire Road, which runs along the work area. Expect a 1.2-mile hike of moderate difficulty.

Each hike is limited to 20 participants. More hike dates are forthcoming. Please register on our Eventbrite page.

Note: Heavy rain will cancel this event.
