Sam McDonald Park was named after Sam (Emanuel) McDonald, descendent of enslaved persons. From 1917 until his death in 1957, he acquired more than 400 acres which he bequeathed for public use. The hike will lead to his former home, a two room cabin, which still stands today. Approximately 4-mile hike on a trail with strenuous inclines and declines. Learn about Sam McDonald, the legacy of African American land conservation and his history at Stanford University. Celebrate Black History Month at Sam McDonald Park!

Pacific Beach Coalition/Surfer’s Beach Cleanup
Pacific Beach Coalition/Surfer’s Beach Cleanup
Surfer's Beach starts at the South Jetty of Pillar Point Harbor across from Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay near El Granada. This beach under the right conditions creates a nice surf break as it rolls in along the jetty which is becoming a very popular surfing location. The cleanup will be on the beach and the rocks when there is a low tide. During high tide, the focus will be on cleaning up the trail and the bluff all the way to Miramar (if desired). Meet on the Coastal Trail by Pillar Point RV Park. Please register in advance.

Pacific Beach Coalition/Linda Mar habitat restoration
Pacific Beach Coalition/Linda Mar habitat restoration
The coastal sand dunes along Linda Mar Beach are among the most dynamic and fragile natural formations relying on a commitment to protecting and preserving them. Restoring this landscape involves removing non-native invasive plants and weeds (i.e., ice plant, mustard and ox tongue) to make way for planting coastal native plants (i.e., beach sage, seaside daisy and strawberry) to maintain, increase and sustain biodiversity. Meet at the Crespi Community Center parking lot. You many also join in on the event after 10am by crossing Highway 1 at the stoplight, and heading north on the coastal trail bike path to join the team. Please register in advance.
